Known for her ability to resonate not only warm and rich tones but also to move audiences emotionally, HaEun Kim’s artistry is characterized by her profound musical expression.
Born in Republic of Korea, HaEun Kim began playing piano at the age of six. She graduated from Gwangju Arts High School, where she studied under Eun Young Kim, an alumna of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
Kim has earned numerous accolades, including top prizes at the Win Art Competition, Seoul Orchestra Competition, Korea Herald Music Competition, and Suri Music Competition. She has also won awards in university-sponsored competitions at Mokpo National University, Sunchon National University, and Chonnam National University.
As a soloist, Kim has delivered compelling performances and recitals throughout her career. In high school, she was selected to perform at the Freshman Concert, an honor awarded to top first-year students in each department, and at semester-end concerts recognizing outstanding academic and performance achievements. She has presented annual solo recitals in cities across Korea, including notable performances at Usquare Kumho Art Hall, Win Art Hall, and the Concert Hall at Seoul National University. A two-time winner of the Kumho Junior Concert Audition, she performed solo recitals at Usquare Kumho Art Hall in 2014 and 2018. Additionally, she performed Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 18 with the Gwangju Arts High School Orchestra after winning the school’s concerto competition.
Kim’s musical journey includes participation in esteemed international festivals and academies. She attended the Amalfi Coast Music & Arts Festival in 2017 and performed at the Seoul National University International Piano Academy in 2019. She has had the privilege of working with renowned artists in masterclasses, including Jan Jiracek von Arnim, John O’Conor, Boris Berman, James Giles, Alessio Bax, and Edward Auer. Additionally, she performs regularly as a member of PoAH (Piano of Artistry and Humanity).
Kim earned her Bachelor’s degree from Seoul National University, where she studied with Hee Sung Joo and Kyung-ah Kim. She completed her Master’s degree and Performer Diploma at Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University under the mentorship of Norman Krieger, receiving a full scholarship and serving as an Associate Instructor in the Secondary Piano Department.
She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) under the guidance of Professor Dror Biran, also receiving a full scholarship and serving as a Teaching Graduate Assistant in the Secondary Piano Department.
